Head to head

Email Bump vs Mailcoach

Mailcoach meters emails and gives unlimited contacts. We meter contacts and don't cap sending. Which is cheaper is a division problem, not an opinion.

The short version

Which one you want, in three sentences

Pick Mailcoach if you hold a very large list you email rarely, or if you want a self-hosted option from a team with a serious open-source track record.

Pick Email Bump if you email a smaller list often and want a bill that doesn't move with send volume, or if you need a permanent free plan.

Pick neither if you want free self-hosting, which is listmonk, or a one-time licence, which is Sendy at $69.

Against us

Two places Mailcoach is the better choice

Unlimited contacts. The list size never touches the base price. If you're sitting on 200,000 addresses you mail twice a year, their model charges you for the two sends and ours charges you every month for the addresses. That's a large difference in their favour.

Self-hosting and bring-your-own-provider. You can run it on your own infrastructure, and you can halve the per-email rate by supplying your own sending provider. We're hosted-only on Amazon SES with no equivalent option.

FAQ

Email Bump vs Mailcoach, asked and answered

Is Email Bump cheaper than Mailcoach?

Divide your monthly sends by your contact count. Above roughly three or four sends per contact, contact pricing wins; below one, Mailcoach wins comfortably.

A 10,000-contact list mailed weekly is 40,000 emails — about $89/mo at Mailcoach's own-provider rate plus base, against $19/mo here.

Can I self-host Email Bump?

No, and there's no plan to. If self-hosting is the requirement, Mailcoach Self-Hosted, listmonk, Mautic or Sendy are the options on the alternatives page.

Do you have unlimited contacts?

No — contacts are what we meter, though unsubscribed and hard-bounced addresses stop counting automatically. Mailcoach's contacts are genuinely unlimited because it bills on sends instead.
