Open-source HubSpot alternatives
HubSpot Professional is $800/mo plus a mandatory $3,000 onboarding fee, and marketing contacts are metered separately from CRM contacts. Self-hosting removes all of that — and replaces about half of what HubSpot does.
The projects below, with the licence, what each asks of you, and a straight answer about the CRM.
What each one asks of you
These replace the marketing half. None of them is a CRM in HubSpot's sense, which is the thing to be clear about before you start.
| Provider | Licence and cost | What it asks of you | Type |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mautic | Open source | PHP, MySQL and reliable cron. Upgrades have a reputation. You bring the sending provider | Self-hosted |
| listmonk | AGPL-3.0 | One Go binary plus Postgres — the easiest here to run. No automation builder | Self-hosted |
| Keila | AGPL-3.0 | Elixir and Postgres, or a European hosted plan from €8/mo. No lifecycle automation | Self-hosted |
| Ghost | Open source (MIT) | Node and a database. Publishing and memberships rather than marketing automation | Self-hosted |
| Plunk | AGPL-3.0 | Postgres, Redis and a container, or $0.001 an email on Plunk Cloud | Self-hosted |
| useSend (formerly Unsend) | AGPL-3.0 | Postgres, Redis, your own AWS account — and it's still described as beta | Self-hosted |
| Notifuse | AGPL-3.0 | Postgres and a Go binary, plus a sending provider underneath. Cloud from $16/mo | Self-hosted |
| FluentCRM | $90/year, one site | Lives inside WordPress. Site down means marketing down; large sends strain WP cron | Self-hosted |
| Sendy | $69 one-time | PHP and MySQL on your own hosting, sending through your own Amazon SES account | Self-hosted |
| Mailcoach | Separate self-host licence | Hosted is $9.99/mo plus per-email; the self-hosted licence isn't published | Self-hosted |
| Postal | MIT | A full mail server — you own the IPs, the warm-up and the blocklist relationships | Self-hosted |
| Email Bump | Proprietary | Not open source and not self-hostable. The trade is that nobody pages you about a blocklist | Permanent |

None of these replaces the CRM
HubSpot is a CRM platform with marketing attached. Every project on this page replaces the marketing and none of them replaces deals, pipelines, sales sequences or the service desk. Mautic has lead scoring and contact management, which is not the same thing as a sales CRM your revenue team works in.
So the realistic open-source position is a split stack: Mautic or listmonk for marketing, and something else — EspoCRM, Odoo, Twenty or a spreadsheet — for the sales side, with data moving between them. That's more moving parts than one HubSpot login and considerably less than $800/mo.
Worth naming the simpler option first: HubSpot's free CRM for two users is genuinely good and costs nothing. Keeping it and moving only the marketing elsewhere avoids the $800/mo tier without self-hosting anything.
What self-hosting does and doesn’t remove
It removes the tier cliff, not the work. No $800/mo Professional, no $3,000 onboarding fee, no $45 per extra seat, no separate meter for marketing contacts. In exchange you run PHP, MySQL and cron, and you own deliverability.
It doesn't remove the CRM problem. Every project here replaces marketing. None replaces deals, pipelines or the service desk, so a full open-source stack means pairing one of these with a separate CRM and syncing between them.
Copyleft, mostly. Mautic, listmonk, Keila, Plunk, useSend and Notifuse are copyleft; Ghost, Postal and FreeResend are permissive. It rarely bites for internal sending and matters if you're building a product on top.
HubSpot alternatives, asked and answered
Is there an open-source HubSpot alternative?
For the marketing half, Mautic — campaigns, segmentation, landing pages and lead scoring, with no per-contact cost at any size. listmonk and Keila cover newsletters more simply.
For the CRM half, nothing on this page. That's a separate search, and the pragmatic answer is often to keep HubSpot's free CRM for two users and move only the marketing.
What does self-hosting save against HubSpot?
Professional is $800/mo plus a $3,000 one-off onboarding fee, with additional core seats at $45/mo. Mautic's licence is free, so you'd be paying for a server and a sending provider — Amazon SES at $0.16 per 1,000 — plus your own time.
The saving is large enough that it's worth pricing properly rather than dismissing. So is the time cost: cron configuration, upgrades and deliverability all become yours.
Can I keep HubSpot free and self-host the marketing?
Yes, and it's the most common sensible arrangement. Contacts and deals stay in the free CRM for two users; campaigns run on Mautic or a cheap hosted tool; the two sync over the API.
You lose the single-record view and you avoid the tier jump entirely.
The marketing half, for $19/mo
Campaigns, live segments, flows and a transactional API on one contact-priced plan, with unlimited seats and no onboarding fee. Not open source, and no CRM.
