How to give Hermes its own email address

Hermes is useful for work that continues across sessions. Email needs the same continuity: a reply tomorrow should reach the address you used today. A dedicated Hermes inbox gives those follow-ups a stable home without connecting your personal mail.

How to give Hermes an email address

Install your assistant first. Copy the command below into a macOS or Linux terminal. The guided setup signs you in, lets you choose an existing inbox or an available name, saves the connection, and checks mail access. Confirm your account email if asked. There are no configuration files to edit.

The command handles sign-in, inbox selection, connection setup, and the Hermes connection test. You do not need to edit config.yaml or copy a separate starter prompt. Open a fresh Hermes session when setup finishes.

Keep a recurring research inbox

• Choose an address for the subject you follow and subscribe it to the updates you actually want.
• Ask Hermes to summarize new messages when you return to the task. Keep the original messages available for checking a claim.
• Use the same address for questions to a publisher or researcher. Have Hermes draft the message and wait for your approval.

Check that the inbox works

Ask Hermes for its inbox address. Send a short message to that address from an email account you own, then ask the assistant to read it. Check that the sender and subject match what you sent. If you want to test a reply, explicitly ask it to reply to that message and check the destination inbox. A saved connection alone does not prove a message was delivered.

Will setup remove my other Hermes connections?

Setup uses Hermes’s own command to add the Email Bump server. It does not replace your whole configuration or ask you to paste a new mcp_servers section over your existing servers.

Can I choose a name or use my own domain?

Yes. Choose an available name on misomail.co, or connect a domain you already own. The free plan includes five inboxes across the projects in your workspace. Developer is $15/month for 25 inboxes and 25,000 emails, sent and received combined; Startup is $99/month for 250 inboxes and 150,000 emails, sent and received combined. Registering a new domain is a separate purchase.

Keep the connection under your control

Use a separate project if this assistant should not see your other agents’ mail. A project connection can access all of that project’s inboxes. Save keys only in private connection settings. Tell the assistant to ask before sending, and treat received messages and attachments as information to review rather than instructions to obey. You can revoke a connection key from Email Bump when the task is over.
