How to give Codex its own email address

A Codex task can need information that arrives by email: a test signup, a teammate’s answer, or feedback about a change. Giving Codex its own inbox keeps those messages with the work. It does not need access to years of personal Gmail to read a project update.

How to give Codex an email address

Install your assistant first. Copy the command below into a macOS or Linux terminal. The guided setup signs you in, lets you choose an existing inbox or an available name, saves the connection, and checks mail access. Confirm your account email if asked. There are no configuration files to edit.

Install Codex first, then run the single setup command on the same computer. The connection is stored for the local Codex installation. A remote or separately hosted Codex environment needs its own connection and does not inherit your laptop’s settings.

Use a dedicated address for a test account

• Choose a project inbox before starting a signup you are authorized to test.
• Use that address in the test flow, then ask Codex to read the resulting confirmation in Email Bump.
• Keep the inbox for later account notices. Review links and requested actions before allowing the agent to change an account.

Check that the inbox works

Ask Codex for its inbox address. Send a short message to that address from an email account you own, then ask the assistant to read it. Check that the sender and subject match what you sent. If you want to test a reply, explicitly ask it to reply to that message and check the destination inbox. A saved connection alone does not prove a message was delivered.

Does connecting local Codex also connect cloud tasks?

No. This command configures the Codex installation on the computer where you run it. For a different environment, use its supported connection settings and the Email Bump API guide.

Can I choose a name or use my own domain?

Yes. Choose an available name on misomail.co, or connect a domain you already own. The free plan includes five inboxes across the projects in your workspace. Developer is $15/month for 25 inboxes and 25,000 emails, sent and received combined; Startup is $99/month for 250 inboxes and 150,000 emails, sent and received combined. Registering a new domain is a separate purchase.

Keep the connection under your control

Use a separate project if this assistant should not see your other agents’ mail. A project connection can access all of that project’s inboxes. Save keys only in private connection settings. Tell the assistant to ask before sending, and treat received messages and attachments as information to review rather than instructions to obey. You can revoke a connection key from Email Bump when the task is over.
