Head to head

Email Bump vs Mailchimp Transactional

Mailchimp Transactional is an add-on to a marketing plan. We put transactional and marketing on one contact-priced plan. That structural difference is most of this comparison.

The short version

Which one you want, in three sentences

Pick Mailchimp Transactional if you're already on a paid Mailchimp plan and happy there. Adding $20 blocks to an existing subscription is simpler than migrating your marketing, and one login is worth something.

Pick Email Bump if you'd be buying a Mailchimp plan purely to access the transactional add-on, or if 500,000 emails a month is a ceiling you can see.

Pick neither if you want the best developer experience, which is Resend, or the lowest price, which is Amazon SES.

Two places Mailchimp Transactional is the better choice

You're already paying for Mailchimp. If your marketing runs there and you're happy with it, adding blocks is a checkbox rather than a migration. One vendor, one login, one invoice — and switching costs are real.

Blocks don't expire monthly. A block is 25,000 emails rather than a monthly allowance that resets. For irregular volume that's kinder than a plan you under-use half the year.

FAQ

Email Bump vs Mailchimp Transactional, asked and answered

Is Email Bump cheaper than Mailchimp Transactional?

If you'd be buying a Mailchimp plan solely to unlock the add-on, considerably — $19/mo here covers 10,000 contacts with campaigns, flows and uncapped sending.

If you're already on Mailchimp Standard for the marketing, the marginal block cost is competitive and switching may not be worth it.

Can I use Email Bump alongside Mailchimp?

You can, though it means two contact stores and two unsubscribe states. If you're going to run both, keep marketing in one and transactional in the other rather than splitting audiences across them.

Is there a send ceiling?

No. Sending is uncapped under fair use, where Mailchimp Transactional caps at 20 blocks — 500,000 emails a month.
