Head to head

Email Bump vs Intercom

Intercom is a support platform. We're an email platform. This comparison only makes sense if you've worked out that you're using Intercom mainly to send outbound email.

Eight rows below, and Intercom wins every row about support — because we don't do any of it.

The short version

Which one you want, in three sentences

Pick Intercom if you run customer support through it. The Messenger, shared inbox, help centre and Fin are the product, and nothing on this page replaces them.

Pick Email Bump if the part you actually use is the outbound campaigns and lifecycle email, and you'd rather not pay per seat and per email to send them.

Pick both which many teams do — Intercom for support, a dedicated platform for marketing and lifecycle email, with contacts synced between them.

Against us

Three places Intercom is the better choice

It does support and we don't. Shared inbox, ticketing, help centre, SLAs, and Fin resolving conversations at $0.99 an outcome. If support runs through Intercom, replacing it with an email tool isn't a comparison — it's a gap.

In-app messaging and product tours. Delivered inside your product, against the same user record as the email. We send email. For onboarding that happens in-app, that's a channel we can't cover.

One record across support and marketing. The agent answering a ticket sees what campaigns the person received. Splitting the tools means syncing data and losing some of that context.

FAQ

Email Bump vs Intercom, asked and answered

Is Email Bump cheaper than Intercom?

For the email half, dramatically — $19/mo at 10,000 contacts with unlimited seats and no per-email charge, against per-seat pricing plus per-email billing.

It's not like-for-like though: Intercom's price includes a support platform we have no equivalent for.

Can I keep Intercom for support and move the email?

Yes, and it's the common pattern. Keep Intercom for the inbox, Messenger and Fin, and run campaigns and lifecycle email elsewhere, syncing contacts over the API.

You lose some shared context and you stop paying a marginal cost per newsletter.

Do you have in-app messages?

No. Email and inbound email only. Intercom, Userlist and Customer.io all deliver in-app.
